Notification rules

A notification rule is a set of conditions that when they are met, the system will trigger an action (usually sending an email) to notify that something has happened.

You can create notification rules for:

  • a specific tracker,
  • all trackers of a given vehicle type, and
  • all trackers within the organization.

Types of rules

We have three main types of notifications: max kms done by a tracker, trackers entering-leaving a POI (or geofence) and trackers getting close to a given POI.

Max kms

This rule will be triggered when the vehicle has reached an ammount of N kms (specified by you) within the following time frames:

  • since the registration of the tracker (its whole life within BotOn),
  • within the last month (within the current month),
  • within the last week (a week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday),
  • within the last day (in the current day).

Close to a POI

This rule will be triggered when the tracker is close to an ammount of N kms (specified) by you. The rule can be used with polygons, multipolygons and points.

Enters-Leaves a POI

This rule will be triggered when tracker enters and/or leaves a POI. This rule can only be used with polygons and multipolygons.

Types of notifications

Once the rule is created, you can specify how do you want to get notified. BotOn offers three options: * BotOn inbox, * Email, * Webhook

BotOn Inbox

When you create a notification rule, the system will always save the event when it is triggered in an inbox email style solution. Each user belonging to the organization will have their inbox, and they can check it at their own rythm.

This notification inbox allows users to delete notifications, as well as filter them by tracker/vehicle attributes like license plate, VIN or type of notification.

Email

When creating the organization, you can set up an email where you want to receive this type of notifications. If your organization does not have an email, add it. Then update the rule to send notifications via email.

Webhook

When creating the organization, you can set up a webhook endpoint where you want to receive this type of notifications. If your organization does not have it, add it. Then update the rule to send notifications via webhooks.
